A Fab Maxi Dress, Will Go a Long Way

Friday I was asked to share some of my favorite Maxi Dresses of the season! As the Maxi is legit my favorite dress of summer (and I own MANY), I was thrilled by this request.  This spent the weekend searching for fab finds.

A little background on me and dresses:  I was the dress buyer while at Century 21 Department stores and I became sort of an addict.  I truly believe that if you find a great dress, you will have it for years to come.  The dress above is my absolute favorite Maxi Dress and you will not believe this…..I got it in 2008 (just before I got married) and still wear it often.  My wish is to help you find a dress that you wear for years to come!

FullSizeRender 42As usual, there are so many cute maxis to choose from this season.  Let’s start with the easy, casual, knit crowd. Most of these silouhettes come in both solid and stripes, but I am currently digging the nautical vibe from the stripe variety.  From left to right here are the cream of the crop: Left – Gap Ribbed Striped Racer Maxi (comes in navy and white and gray and white).  For errand running, shopping, or sight seeing – wear it with your favorite sneakers as shown or dress up with a cute block heeled sandal or espadrille for a casual summer gathering.  Today it’s just $38 (regularly $79.95) with code “sunshine.”  Middle – Striped Tank Maxi from Old Navy.  Super easy for anywhere summer brings you.  Just add flip flops and go!  And at $17 it is a no brainer (again use code “sunshine”).  On Right – Felicity & Coco Strapless Stripe Maxi Dress with Knot Keyhole Back.  I love the mixed stripes, the drape of the skirt, and the unexpected back interest – they make this dress one you’ll way for summers to come.  $88 at Nordstrom.

Looking for the “it” look of the summer in Maxi form?  The off the shoulder ruffle dress fills that bill.  Both feminine and flirty, it is equally as home at an afternoon wedding as it is for an evening cocktail party.  Here are my favorite finds in all price ranges: Left – the sophisticated blue and white seersucker like stripe Ruffle One Shoulder Maxi from Banana Republic at the amazing price of $48 with code “sunshine” (normally $158)!!!!  pair her with a pair of gold flats for daytime or with gold heels or espadrilles for evening.           Middle – Navy Dots…swoon worthy (think Pretty Woman) in my opinion.  I personally purchased this for a 4th of July party and can not wait to put it on.  $58 at LuLu’s.  Right – a preppy menswear like stripe, off the shoulder dress, which reminds me of a old school glam Ralph Lauren Dress, but this one is just $58 and from Forever 21 (and yes I am guilty of indulging in this brand at age 38 – shhh, don’t tell).  I truly have a major crush on this maxi!

The Maxi is a staple in any wardrobe.  Be it spaghetti strap, strapless, or a tank silhouette – you host can’t go wrong in a Maxi with a great print and an easy fit.  All of these fit that bill.  Left – An easy Woven Maxi Dress from Felicity & Coco at Nordstrom ($98) that comes in several amazing prints and a gorgeous solid navy.  Light weight and airy – it will keep you cool while looking hot ;).  Middle – I adore this gold floral print and the smocked bodice is so flattering.  The color lends it self to transitioning to fall with the addition of a denim jacket and a camel bootie.  At $55 its a must have from Socialite.  Right – a mixed media dress in two rich and vibrant prints.  A head turner for sure.  The Parkland Maxi Dress at Anthropologie.

Lastly, here are a few dresses that are a bit different and special – so beware, compliments will ensue!

First – a gingham woven Maxi Dress from JCrew with pockets (who doesn’t love pockets!?!).  I love the simple elegance and versatility of this dress.    With a pair of leather flip flops she is great for day and add some heels and statement earrings and she is black tie worthy!  Currently 25% off with code “summer” – making it $126.

Next – a crochet top Maxi.  The mix of textures makes it stand apart and the colors are so deep and drenched with complexity.  If all that isn’t enough, the tie back just seals the deal for me!  At Anthropologie – $168 the Violet Sunset Crocheted Dress makes me smile.

Last, but not least, The Sally Dress from Hutch.  This one may just be my favorite of the bunch.  My beautiful and fashionable friend wore it for her 40th Birthday and I have been thinking of it ever since.  Maybe its the elephant print, or the fitted knit top, or the criss cross tie back….or all of it together.  Whatever it may be, this dress will be one of your summer favs for summers to come – especially as it is on sale for $148.99 (regularly $255) and you can get an extra 20% off if you sign up for their email list bringing it to $119!

White Hot

My dress is from last season, but here is a similar one from Zara for just $69.90

Today is the Summer Solstice so I thought it only appropriate to write about the “it” dress of summer – the LWD (little white dress!).  A crisp white dress has always been a summer staple, but this year it is a hot trend.  With sportswear in a super-feminine swing with ruffles, off the shoulder styling, bare shoulders and fabrics like eyelet and lace – its no wonder that this summer’s must have dresses should follow suit.  Here are my favorites at every price point – whether you are looking to spurge for that summer wedding or find a deal, there is a white dress for you!

This season’s white dresses run the gamete from easy day dresses to cocktail dresses with intricate detailing and flair.  I am loving this easy knit t-shirt dress with fun woven detailing on hem from ASOS at $40!  Toss it with your favorite sandals or with a pair of cute sneakers and you are comfortable, cool and chic for errand running, sight seeing, or shopping.

Then there is the dress that goes from daytime picnic to night time cocktails with ease.  All of these dresses work just as well with your favorite new casual espadrille as they do with this season’s metallic or bow heels.

Urban Outfitters – Kimchi Blue Eyelet Column Midi Dress

These dresses steal the show in textures galore.  This easy column from Urban Outfitters is totally urban chic for a understated, yet sophisticated look.  And on sale for $39.99 (regularly $68) it is a no brainer!

Bare shoulders are a must this summer.  Add some eyelet trim and you have a show stopper.  This off the shoulder number from Lucky Brand Jeans is my favorite of the shoulder- bearing bunch as it has an elastic band to taper in the waist and add shape.  Most of the reviews out there for similar dresses complained that this silouhette was a bit shapeless, but with a simple elastic waist Lucky solved that problem making this one a must have.  As an added bonus it is on sale for 30% off !

Amanda Stiffly Dress  –  Lucky Brand Jeans

A fit and flare silhouette is one that flatters most figures.  In feminine and dainty eyelet it’s a must have for your summer wardrobe.  Both of these are great options:  a spaghetti strap style from Old Navy at just $19.99 and a more structure version from Nordstrom at $88 that is bra friendly.  Both go from beach to dinner with ease!

Fit and Flare Eyelet Dress – Nordstrom
Fit and Flare Eyelet Lace Dress – Old Navy

Fit and Flare not your thing?  This stunning lace sheath from Anne Taylor is equally as versatile and goes from day to evening with ease.  And today is just $75 with code “dress75” (regularly $169)!

Geo Lace Sheath – Anne Taylor

Looking for something extra special for that night out or that formal affair?  I am obsessed with these two beauties from Anthropologie.  These dresses are a tad bit of a spurge, but will be ones that you will wear for years to come.  On the left – the decadent slit sleeve Solana Dress.  Check out all of the lace and appliqué detailing (swoon!) – and it is bra friendly!  A steal for all that is going on here at $198.  And on the right the mixed piecing Oahu Off-The-Shoulder Eyelet Dress at $228.  To me this dress screams siren.  I’m thinking it may be my birthday dress this year!

Alright, so that is it for white HOT summer dresses.  Have a favorite you want to share – please, please let me know.  Until next time……xo, Amy

I can ‘naut’ get enough….

The weekend is here!  And to me that means a more relaxed laid-back look.  I am in love with these braided nautical bracelets from Mystic Knotwork and they totally fit the Friday look I was craving today.   Truthfully, I jump at any chance to build an outfit around their beachy chic vibe.  In fact, when it comes to these bracelets – I am of the opinion that more better.  I love the way they look stacked either monochromatically or with contrasting colors.  Today I I layered a solid navy  and a solid white (its a bit more of an off white) Sailor Knot Cotton Rope Bracelet ($5 each!) and a Navy and White Two Color Nautical Sailor Knot Cotton Cord Bracelet  ($6 each!).  They come in tons of color choices and are fabulous quality – so definitely check them out if this works with your summer look.

Today I paired my bracelets (see, I told you build my outfit around them!) with a released hem Denim pencil skirt (pic on left) and a long sleeve white and navy striped Striped boatneck T-shirt on sale for $22 – both from JCrew.  The Denim skirt I wore is nearly sold out.  So here is another good option: Denim Skirt with Raw Hem on sale for $52 (on the right).

I wore some simple gold Havianas and off I went for a morning of swimming lessons, errands and work.  I hope you all have a great weekend!  Happy dressing my friends.  xoxo, Amy

Snooping…trends and comfy kicks

I spent the last two days in my old stomping   grounds – the NY Garment Center, visiting with old friends and seeing their latest and greatest. The hottest trends on hand for summer and even for the upcoming fall were woven blouses and dresses with details like smocking, inset lace, gorgeous florals, pom poms and of course off the shoulder and cold shoulder looks.  I also saw great maxi dresses and super cute screen tees.  I’m so excited to share all of these with you!

I’m my younger days – when the weather was warm, I’d run around from the train to the market in flip flops or Dr. Scholls. Well I tried flips yesterday and my feet and back were a mess!  Today – I threw on my trusty Chuck slip ons and all was well as I ran here and there. The best part about today’s Converse sneakers is that they are stylish and look great with everything from skirts and dresses to jeans and leggings. Best of all they allow you to be on the go.  If lots of walking is part of your summer plans – be sure to check out these two Converse Styles: first the ones I have on in the pic “Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Slip-on Low Tops,” on sale at Nike.com for $44.97.
And then the “Chuck Taylor® ‘Shoreline’ Sneaker” style which is a bit more refined and has laces that are just for show at Nordstrom.com for  $49.95.

I own both and I can say for certain – they should be the top of your packing list for any upcoming summer activities that include lots of walking. In good style, Amy xoxo

This Summer, Pom-Poms Have Me Cheering!

Pom poms are making quite the racket this season.  With their bright and carefree attitude – it makes sense as they create an instant fiesta vibe.  But how and when should you wear these little puff balls of fun?  Read on for some of my favs (at all price points!) and how they fit effortlessly into your wardrobe!

1.  A Gauzy Kimono worthy of both the beach and city.  Toss it on over your favorite bathing suit or wear with your favorite jeans and a white tank.  This one is from Leavitt & Co and is a steal at $38!!!  – please email Dana to purchase.  Or choose one from Aqua with multi colored pom poms which will match all of your bathing suits and will be a show stopper with a tank and white jeans.

2.  Don’t feel like wearing you pom poms?  Carry them!  A large straw tote looks right at home with some bright colors adorning its side.  Like this one from Lilly Pulitzer.  It is a bit of a splurge, but I bought this one last summer and it’s still part of their current collection and a summer staple in my wardrobe and so well made that it will be for some time.  I also love the Poms All Around Straw Tote from Free People – it’s a steal at $48!  Large and roomy and has a cover to keep your items safe and secure.

I am also totally crushing on the pom pom clutch.  What an easy way to add some pizazz to your summer soiree, date night, or girls night out!  Toss on a pair of white jeans, heels and carry one of these – and poof: instant style.  I adore this clam shell shaped one from Lilly, but there are plenty of less expensive options like this navy rainbow pom pom clutch from Francesca’s for just $22.

Lilly Pulitzer Clam Shell Clutch $118
Rainbow Pom Pom Clutch from Francesca’s $22

3.  Want to get your pom pom on, but in a “small” way?  Even necklaces and  earrings have found their way into this trend!  What could be easier than tossing on a few strands of beads mixed with pom poms or a pair of bright festive statement earrings?  I love these pieces paired with a crisp white dress, white jeans, or even just blue jeans and a white tee.  They effortlessly kick your style up a notch.  Bauble Bar has so many cute ones to chose from.  Here are two of my favs – the Guadeloupe Pom Pom Necklace at $34 and the  Solange Pom Pom Earrings at $38.

Bauble Bar Necklace $34
Bauble Bar Earrings $38

4.  Off the shoulder and pom poms?  Yes, please!  Anytime I can put two of summer’s top trends into one look – I’m game.  This black romper from Anthropologie is so easy to wear and is perfect with flat sandals for errands, lunch, sight seeing or toss on some heels and wear her for night (and how cute is that pom pom visor!?!?).  And check out this embroidered off the shoulder top from Love Stitch – so cute and effortless with denim shorts or jeans and it could even work as a coverup!

5. Last and yes least (hah!) – pom poms for the minimalist.  Want in the trend, but in a subdued way?  I love this simple linen tank from JCrew and at $14.99 its a no brainer.  Pair it with a denim pencil skirt or skinny jeans and this Madewell clutch (also a steal at $22.99!) for a totally laid back vibe.

Jcrew Linen Pom Pom Tank $14.99

Easy Peasy Summer Dressing

This outfit is my total go to for a casual summer day. I mean it, because I actually own all of these pieces. These items are so versatile you will wear these pieces weekly! Blog and more coming SOON! In the meantime, check this out:

1. Navy/White Jcrew Gingham Cami (Harley got me this for mother’s day!). I love with the white toothpick jeans (https://goo.gl/pVDxzL), but I also wore this top this weekend with wide leg high-waisted, worn (think holey knees) jeans and it was super cute too. I digress (as usual), this cutie is on sale and 30% off = $35 (normally $68)!!! link: https://goo.gl/8OuYXz
2. Run, run, run to snag these gold Rio Sandals (they also come in silver and two tonal shades of camel/brown) because they will go fast. I have worn these exact sandals for at least 8 years (I kid you not) and they rarely go on sale. Oh and they are so well made that they last me at least two seasons if not more. They are also 30% off = $35. Ok, GO! Link: https://goo.gl/HUsvXf
3. See that adorable sailor knot bracelet? My current passion. I bought many and I love to stack them! Guess what – they are super well made, come in darling packaging and are $5!!!! Check out Mystic Knotwork on Etsy. Link: https://goo.gl/3yFCBD
4. And those honey sunglasses….they are amazing with sun kissed skin and hair, are very high quality (made in Italy, blah, blah), AND super duper on sale. With the sale price and the code “moreplease” they are……$45!!! Originally $125. EEK! Link: https://goo.gl/GQ3ZPP
5. Lastly, my favorite summer jacket for breezy nights at the beach or in the mountains. Also makes a great layer for your office. The LuLaRoe Sarah Cardigan – colors and sizes vary. Link: https://goo.gl/yWbKkR

Well Hello There…

Thanks for stopping in. This blogging thing is brand new to me, yet it’s something I wish I started years ago as I truly love snooping for great deals on gorgeous items and sharing them with you. For those of you you don’t know me – my name is Amy Lage. I am mama to two tiny clothes horses, wife to the best guy I know, former off-price clothing buyer, current self proclaimed fashion guru with a passion for trend right & classic styles at fabulous prices. I’m hoping you’ll tag along for the ride and enjoy this blog almost as much as I know I will enjoy writing it. My goal is to make shopping a joyful experience.

So am I legit? Where do I get off sharing these finds with you? Here’s a brief bio and you can decide……I got my start in the Fashion Industry at age 20 as an intern for the TJX companies, which ended with me getting an offer to join their Buyer Training Program. There I fell head over heels for the world of off price buying. I mean who doesn’t love a deal – right? After about a year I found myself in yearning for the Big City and joined Loehmann’s as an Assistant Buyer. Two short years (and lots of handwork) later, I was promoted to Buyer! I was living my dream: responsible for a 50 million dollar business, spending many days a week in the NY Garment Center, and traveling to CA, Paris, & Milan multiple times a year. I was honestly in heaven! After about 5 years later, I made the move to the power house of upscale off-price – Century 21 Department Stores and there I stayed until the birth of my oldest daughter. The long hours and travel commitments of my job didn’t mesh well with having an infant – so I chose her (my greatest design yet!) and been thankful for that decision ever since. However, I have always missed this world and my past career. A year and a half ago I became a LuLaRoe Fashion Consultant to scratch that itch, but I still yearn for a bit more. After seven years out of the hustle and bustle of the retail industry, my passion is still so strong that I decided to share it with all of you!
